Thorne's Hidden Town

It's not everyday that you enter a house and think "Wait! Am I still outside?!"

When I entered Thorne's house, the floor was covered in leaves, and a long corridor of trees, vegetation, and lampposts stretched before my eyes.

The host, who is a big worgen, had been waiting for me and offered me a warm cup of coffee so I could enjoy it while she showed me around town.

Vacant Home

Our first stop was the visitor's home.

This cozy little space was created by cleverly increasing the size of a and sinking it in order to use only the top two-thirds of it.

was added to the side wall to increase the warmth of the room.

For sure, any visitor would feel very comfortable staying here.

Thorne's Room

Next, Thorne showed me the room that she shared with her mates.

From what she told me, she had been relocated to the top bunk bed as she snores (or growls) through the night.

On the wall you could see a map () of all the places Thorne and her mates had fought in. They had been everywhere.

Old Lady's Lodge

Next door to Thorne's room lived a kind old lady.

As soon as I entered the room, I knew right away that I could spend hours here and be a happy elf.

Books were everywhere, a huge window displayed beautiful plants, and a red wall full of frames displayed things from countless travels.

What a wonderful place to live.

No wonder Thorne spent many hours here sharing moments with the old lady.

The bedroom was located behind the bookshelf and it had a grandfather clock created by Thorne

Nobody could be late with one of these.

Outside the lodge

When I arrived in this area, I couldn't stop being amazed at everything.

There was a BBQ place with food being cooked. Nearby, a huge mountain with a waterfall and windmills was populated by murlocs that wouldn't dare go up the mountain as it was full of wyverns.

This is not my food, but who's hungry?!

Thorne also built a lodge in this space. To make this building tall, she created a storage area under the house and used to add a roof to the structure.

Looking at the lodge's balcony, I couldn't avoid being slightly jealous of whoever woke up with the view of a waterfall everyday.

"Mad" Alchemist & Architects' Lodge

This was a simple room with a sitting area, a fireplace, workspaces, and beds.

But simple didn't mean lacking important things like lots of light. In this small space, Thorne used several , , among other items to bring warm light into every corner of the room. Very clever.

This way, the "Mad" Alchemist had plenty of light to see where he was going and avoid being hit by the flying books above his bed, and the Architect could continue drawing and building things for the town folk.

Town Center

To reach town, we had to cross the woods that I saw when I first arrived. It was a slightly unsettling passage, but we managed it.

Woods

The town square was full of homes.

On the ground floor, there was a room suited for a dwarf, taking into consideration the size of the bed, and another one for a gnome. Unfortunately, I couldn't access the first floor and snoop around other people's houses. Maybe this was for the best. Who knows what I might see if I came in uninvited...

Thorne decided to show me the town chapel before we took a bite at the food truck.

Chapel

At the chapel's entrance, there was a registry book full of blood... I would have run away, but Thorne eased my mind by telling me:

"It is quite safe. We have everything under control!"

That's a relief! Wait... what needed to be controlled?!

Full of questions in my head, I entered the church and my mouth fell open instantly (Thank Elune I am not undead like @.... I hadn't brought a sewing kit with me).

The room had many , and the altar looked freaking Holy amazing. On the right side laid four memorials surrounded by many .

We took our time praying to the dead.

On the left, there was a desk for the scribe and many bookshelves. While looking at some books, I heard Thorne mumble:

Somebody must have left it behind. So careless!

This was when I noticed Thorne grabbing a cup full of fel and rearranging some books. What was going on?

Thorne: We have been forced to resort to certain... measures around these parts

The wars have been long, the people have grown weary...

It happens sometimes that one needs a... a boost, let's call it.

... we use certain... forces that we keep under control

We harness their destructive energy and use it for good

Thorne finally decided to show me the secret room

What I saw inside made me glad I wasn't their enemy!!

Food Truck & Street vendor

Thorne knew I needed to eat something after what I had just seen.

At the food truck, she offered me donuts and a cheese tray. These were delicious.

While I had my mouth full, I noticed that had a fully equipped kitchen with a and a on the stove. Through the corner of my eye, I also noticed a and a with bottles filled with a mystery liquid...

Did they also bring their enemies here?!?! What did I just drink? Elune, please protect me!

With our tummies in a better state, Thorne showed me the street vendor around the corner and where drinks were stored, before heading to the tavern.

Tavern

At the tavern, the table was full of food and drinks, and it stood, invitingly, next to a window built with with light coming from a .

Thorne and I decided to sit by the fireplace and have some drinks under a ceiling made with several . It was enjoyable to be under this canopy.

Park

Just outside the tavern, there was a park. The right side had some relaxing nooks for the living, and the left side had some "beds" for the dead.

First Room & Layout

Thorne mentioned that her first room was the daylight one, and this one never got deleted.

The other rooms weren't this lucky, as this is Thorne's third version of the place.

She struggled to find a layout where she could sink her favourite tables, and geometry just made everything more complicated. I understand her perfectly!

Inspiration Sources

Thorne used Gilnean architecture, which she loves, together with her favourite decor items. She linked all this using light and darkened corners.

She also got inspiration from many talented creators. She couldn't remember them all, but she mentioned CottageWizard and Illestra as sources of great ideas. Jeroen V.D.M. inspired her chapel.

Buy or craft decor items?

Thorne likes a good challenge. She decided that she wasn't going to buy decor, but instead she was going to craft them.

She farmed a lot, did battlegrounds for the first time, and levelled professions to get the items that she wanted.

Build time

Between some frustration with items disappearing into the void, the "Mad" Alchemist & Architects lodge took her one month to complete.

The whole build took around 2 months. Most of this was spent on iterations that ended up deleted.

Roleplay

Thorne never roleplayed before, but this house has changed her mind!

Dear reader, if you belong to a RP guild and are interested, Thorne's house might be a good place to hold a meeting. She would be thrilled if this ever happened!

Advice to other builders

Thorne: Just create whatever you feel good about.

Don't let yourselves be intimidated by all the amazing builds that exist out there.

Spaceships, cars, the entire universe at war or Karazhan in your backyard is very cool, but that doesn't mean that it has to be you.

You can be humble or "normal".

I couldn't agree more!

To conclude

I really hope you enjoyed exploring Thorne's town. Here at the Housing Herald, we have lots of fun exploring your builds and documenting them before they get changed or, even worse, deleted!

Don't forget to follow her advice: create what feels good to you.

See you on the next one!
